|A ŠTO TI JE MILA KĆERI||
ZASPALO JE SIROČE
Zaspalo je siroče isprid tudjih dvora,
ručicama doziva priko sinjeg mora.
Dodji, dodji oče moj, mrkla noć se sprema,

"The Orphan is Sleeping" is from Dalmatia, a central part of the Adriatic coast of Croatia. Like a vast majority of songs from this area it is often performed a capella by a group of four or more singers, usually men. It speaks of an orphan who just lost his mother and who is calling for his father, a sailor that is far away at sea and that will probably never return. Although the lyrics to this song are very dark, almost morbid, they are set to a beautiful melody that is in a purely major key.
