Song Lyrics and Excerpts

A ŠTO TI JE MILA KĆERI

NAVALI SE ŠAR PLANINA

ZASPALO JE SIROČE

SNOŠTI GO VIDOV

ROSNA LIVADA

GUSTA MI MAGLA PADNALA

OJ, OVČARČE

GUGUTKA

KRAJ POTOKA BISTRE VODE

MAJKO IGLA I BIĆVICA

SAGRADIĆU ŠAJKU

MOME STOE

SEDNA BABA DA VEČERA

STOJANE SINE

a u snu mi doš'o dragi, mio srcu mom.

Grlio me, ljubio me celu noć kroz san,
zato mi je, mila mati, jelek raskopčan.

Description
"Dear Daughter, How Come Your Vest is Unbuttoned?" This traditional Serbian song probably dates from the end of 19th or beginning of 20th century. It has subtle but clear erotic overtones: a mother is asking her daughter why is her vest unbuttoned and the daughter answers: "I laid down to sleep and in my dream my lover came to me and hugged and kissed me all night long, so that's why I'm a little untidy..."
